The Willian move

As final terms for the Brazilian are being completed, many Chelsea fans wonder just how much the Brazilian can do for the club. He proved himself last season in the champions league scoring twice against the Blues in Shakhtar’s 3-2 defeat last November. Just 2 months later he made a move thought to be around 35 million Euros to Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala where he had a slightly unsuccessful spell and was transfer listed due to the club’s financial trouble .

Tottenham made a move for him and were set to sign him after his medical. But Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho (who is keen to have his midfield options open) swooped in and made a bid. Mourinho later announced he believed the Brazilian had made up his mind and wanted to join the Blues over Spurs. Can you blame Willian?

With a vastly improving midfield, many Blues feel Willian will be a great signing as his skill and presence of mind in front of goal will make him a great asset to Chelsea. He is a very versatile player who can play on the wing, in the center of midfield or forward supporting the striker. Plus, the thought of Willian, Mata and Hazard alone is enough to get Chelsea fans excited. And although £30 million is a large price tag, in the long run, it will probably be worth it as he showed us in the champions league, posing a constant threat. Whether it’s his footballing ability, his eye for goal or just the fact that Tottenham can’t have him, Chelsea fans will be greatly pleased when Willian puts on the Chelsea shirt. These are exciting times for the Blues and there is a bright season ahead.

Willian, welcome to Chelsea…. And bring Eto’o with you while you’re at it.
